When you create a new case (project), you may enter maximum amount to be charged for the case. You may also indicate that this amount includes (or does not) expenses/cost. You can also enter this amount by going to "Cases (Projects)" -> "Case Details/Edit." Entering a zero ("0") would make the case an unlimited fee (normal hourly charges and cost) case.
When you click on "Cases (Projects)" and select a desired case, at the end of the notes listing, CaseFox will display the fix fee amount and warn you when your total time and expenses for the case exceed the fix fee amount.
There may be two types of fix fee arrangements: 1) Fix fees including labor and cost (e.g., government filing fees, third party fees, etc.) and 2) fix labor + actual cost. Using "Above Amount Include Expenses" checkbox, you may indicate one of these options.
If the total billed exceeds the maximum charges (by option 1 or by option 2 above), CaseFox will automatically calculate a discount to be applied when an invoice is created for this type of cases to bring the total invoiced amount down to the indicated maximum charges.
NOTE: For the cases in which you simply want to monitor the budget but do not want the system to automatically cap the total invoicing by adding an automatically calculated discount, please enter OVERBUDGET in the court case number field of the case. If there is already a court case number in the field, simply add this word at the end.

If we exceed the fix budget for the case and bill an amount beyond it, a negative sign will be displayed.
